My Facebook fans are awesome! The community of people who hang around my fan page have the best advice, questions and comments anywhere on the internet. What did they come up with this time?

Ah, my Facebook fans always have the best questions for me! I've built up an amazing group of people over on my Facebook page, and their interaction, education and commitment never ceases to amaze me. So, each month I'm going to answer questions from my Facebook peeps, right here!

I present to you —

The Facebook Five

Kim R^What is the most overrated baby product/gear item?

This is a tricky one. I'm going to go with a changing table. My prioritized list of nursery furniture is this — glider, dresser, crib, changing table. You'll notice crib isn't first because I don't think cribs are necessary for everyone (but an article on floor beds will happen later). Just throw a changing pad on your dresser. You'll also want to keep diapers and wipes in your living room — when you're watching TV and need to change a diaper it's just easier to do it on the couch or the floor. Why waste what little energy you have on a trip to change a diaper?

Christine L^ brown eggsWhat food can you not stand to eat?

Eggs, beans, most cooked vegetables, most cheese, sushi, and really anything with questionable texture. I am a texture eater and there are lots of things that gross me out. I eat a lot of meat and salads.

Lisa H^ What are your down time activities/hobbies? (You know, in that 5 minutes a week you actually get down time)

I love movies. I'm an addict. I love going to the theatre (as evidenced by my Instagram account) and spending time outdoors when I can. I'm also really enjoying the gym for the very first time in my life. There are no words to describe my love for the team at Mark Fisher Fitness in New York City. The most brilliant atmosphere and energy I've ever seen at a gym — and that's what keeps me going. Well, that and the fact that I am sleeping through the night for the first time in my life and I wake up at 7 a.m. without an alarm now — and I am not a morning person. Stay tuned for some special news from me and the crew at Mark Fisher Fitness later.

Angie G^ Rhoost table edge protectorWhat home safety gadgets/devices will keep your child safe as well as your furniture? Many table safety edges have adhesives that will ruin furniture.

Check out the products from Rhoost. Not only are they adhesive-free, but they're eco-friendly, functional, and they're not hideous. Seriously. They're my go-to child-proofing line. It's that easy.

Erin M^ What is the most common mistake you see first time parents make?

I'm going to go with two answers for this.

  1. Many parents are afraid to ask for help. You're tired, you're stressed-out and you're going through it for the first time. Ask your friends for help. One time, one of my clients needed help with a baby carrier, so I went over. She's a single mom and I could tell she was exhausted. She asked me if she could take a 20 minute nap. That nap lasted nearly 3 hours.
  2. Trust yourself and don't judge yourself too harshly. No one is perfect in any area (except for Mary Poppins) and you're going to make mistakes. Learn from them and move on. Dwelling in negative energy is a nasty thing. You're nailing parenting and your kid or kids are awesome. It's fine.

I hope this was enlightening. Now drink a glass of water — 96 ounces a day is a lot, but it will do amazing things for you. See you next week!
