As I'm writing this it's just four days into my 30-day weight-loss challenge. And I'm totally in the honeymoon stage. Right now I'm just full of excitement for this new process, and I'm having a great time!

Workin' it

I started exercising with the DailyBurn 15-minute workout series. I'm not going to lie — Day 1 kicked my butt! It had been awhile since I'd done an intense workout like that. But it was 15 minutes and done... perfect for my busy schedule. I also like that I can do the workout in my own home, without having to take my kids to a gym childcare. I just turn on my computer, get my weights out and go!

At first I doubted the effect just 15 minutes could do, but I've done three different 15-minute workouts in the series in these first four days and they are all pretty intense. Instead of dreading working out, I'm appreciating the me time that I so desperately need right now. And I'm learning that I deserve that time! (Yes, even if it's only 15 minutes. Baby steps, people. Baby steps.)

Lighten up

So far I've been trying to avoid those "Evil 6" that I mentioned in my first post. I've replaced the Sweet 'n Low and milk in my morning coffee with honey and almond milk.

I've replaced my usual dinner with a big salad (my favorite is a Greek-inspired salad with cucumber, Roma tomatoes, Kalamata olives and extra virgin olive oil and vinegar). I've also been dipping carrots into homemade hummus and eating lots of fresh fruit. Strawberries with honey and mint are my new fave snack. Delish!

Water, please!water glass

I've also been pretty vigilant about drinking more water. I generally toss back coffee and Diet Coke throughout the day. At dinner I filled my kids' cups with water and poured a big glass for myself. Then I announced we're having a contest to see who could drink the most water by the end of dinner. They guzzled their water down and encouraged me to do the same. I'm introducing more healthy concepts to my kids in these silly ways.

Closin' it down

I'm trying to follow the "No eating after 7 p.m. rule." That is a tough one for me since over the past few years, I have created a bad habit for myself: Once the kids are asleep I indulge in a treat just for me that I don't have to share or scarf down through interruptions. To curb that, I've been chewing gum and sucking on a limited number of hard candy pieces (Jolly Ranchers, if you must know). That obviously goes against the no-sugar rule but I have to feed my sweet tooth!

So far, I'm feeling very good about my progress. Stay tuned for more!
