Jacob and Sophia continue their reign as the most popular baby names of 2012, according to the Social Security Administration. There are some newcomers to the list, though, with the influence of pop culture including the name Arya from Game of Thrones and Jase from Duck Dynasty!

Each year the Social Security Administration (SSA) compiles the most popular baby names of the year, taken from Social Security card applications for babies born in the U.S. The most popular baby boy name for the fourteenth year in a row is Jacob. The most popular baby girl name for the second year in a row is Sophia.

Elizabeth and Arya are buzzworthy girl names

Elizabeth is the newest addition to the top 10, beating out Chloe, which moved down to number 11. With a royal baby on the way, perhaps the buzz over Kate Middleton's baby bump (and possible baby name) helped push this elegant name into the top 10.

The SSA also keeps track of which names are increasing in popularity the fastest — and this year, the name Arya is the biggest climber. This unique name's rise in popularity could be attributed to the character Arya Stark from HBO's Games of Thrones.

Perla, Catalina and Elisa are also baby girl names that are quickly rising in popularity. Last year's biggest climber was the name Briella.

Major and Liam are buzzworthy boy names

The boy name Liam is this year's newest addition to the top 10, beating out Daniel. The popularity of this name could be due to The Hunger Games' star Liam Hemsworth, who also happens to be Miley Cyrus's fiancé. One Direction singer Liam Payne is another buzzed about Liam, as is Liam Neeson.

The unique name Major is the baby boy name that is rising in popularity the fastest. Why is this name one of the hottest names for the year? “I have no doubt Major's rising popularity as a boy's name is in tribute to the brave members of the U.S. military,” said Carolyn Colvin, Acting Commissioner of Social Security.

It appears that many parents are fans of the reality show Duck Dynasty, as the name Jase is one of the boy names rising in popularity the fastest. Jase Robertson is one of the breakout stars of Duck Dynasty. Gael is another boy name climbing the chart. Last year's hottest name was Brantley.
