Easter is the Christian celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The events surrounding this important Christian holiday provide unique baby name inspiration.

Preceding Easter is Holy Week, which begins with Palm Sunday (the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem) and includes the Triduum: Holy Thursday (the Last Supper), Good Friday (the Passion) and Easter Saturday (with the vigil celebration of the Resurrection). Most of these names are found in the Gospel accounts of the Passion:

Mary Magdalene: Mary of Magdala was a follower of Jesus. She stayed with Jesus at the cross and was at his burial. The Gospels of John and Mark name her as the first person to see Jesus after his Resurrection.

John the Apostle: John was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus and wrote the Gospel of John, three Epistles of John and the Book of Revelation. Unlike the other apostles, John remained near Jesus at the foot of the cross on Calvary and then too Mary, the mother of Jesus into his care.

Peter: Peter, also known as Simon Peter, was one of the Twelve Apostles. He declared Jesus as "the Messiah, the Son of the living God," but later denied Jesus three times.

Judas Iscariot: For a bribe of "30 pieces of silver," Judas betrayed Jesus to soldiers of the High Priest Caiaphas who, in turn, turned Jesus over to the soldiers of Pontius Pilate.

Pontius Pilate: As the governor of Roman Judea, Pontius Pilate reluctantly authorized the crucifixion of Jesus. He found "no guilt in him" and wanted to release him from custody but feared the wrath of the crowds.

Claudia Procles: The wife of Pontius Pilate asked her husband to "have nothing to do with that innocent man, because in a dream last night, I suffered much on account of him."

Herod Antipas: Upon learning that Jesus was a Galilean, Pontius Pilate sent Jesus to Herod. Herod refused to deal with Jesus and returned him to Pilate.

Joseph Caiaphas: The Jewish high priest is blamed for organizing the plot to kill Jesus.

James, son of Zebedee: One of the first of the Twelve Apostles chosen by Jesus, James was also the first to be martyred.

Annas ben Seth: According to the Gospels, Jesus is brought to Annas the High Priest before being brought before Pontius Pilate.

Simon of Cyrene: Simon was "compelled" by the Romans to carry the cross of Jesus, as indicated in the Gospels and the Stations of the Cross.

Dismas: Dismas is better known as the Penitent Thief, the Good Thief and the Thief on the Cross who was crucified alongside Jesus. Dismas asked Jesus to remember him in his kingdom. Another thief, the Impenitent Thief by the name of Gesmas, taunted Jesus for not saving himself.

Cassius Longinus: This was the Roman soldier who pierced the side of Jesus and proclaimed, "In truth this man was the son of God."

Malchus: The Gospel of John tells us that Malchus was the servant of Caiaphas. Simon Peter cut off Malchus' ear when the servant came to arrest Jesus.

Veronica: A pious woman from Jerusalem, Veronica gave Jesus her veil to wipe his face as he carried his cross. An image of the face of Jesus was impressed up on the cloth, which is called the Veil of Veronica.

Barabbas: At the Passover feast in Jerusalem, Pontius Pilate freed the insurrectionary Barabbas instead of Jesus.
