Patriotic names are perfect for babies born on or around Independence Day. They're also a great choice for anyone who wants to show American pride.

Men of the American Revolution

Think back to your elementary history classes about the American Revolution, and you're sure to recall these inspirational patriots. (These are especially awesome because so many of their surnames can be used as first and middle names, too.)

  • George Washington
  • Paul Revere
  • Benjamin Franklin
  • Thomas Jefferson
  • Thomas Paine
  • Patrick Henry
  • Alexander Hamilton
  • John Paul Jones
  • Nathanael Greene

Women of the American Revolution

Their names are not as well-known as their male counterparts, but these women helped make up the fabric of our nation. Fast-forward to other prominent U.S. females, like our suffragettes, civil rights activists and other first ladies for more patriotic inspiration:
  • Betsy Ross
  • Molly Pitcher
  • Martha Washington
  • Harriet Prudence
  • Sarah Franklin Bache

Symbolic baby names

Would you name your daughter America? Or Apple (as in apple pie, of course). What about Liberty, Glory, Star or Honor? For a little boy, you might consider (Uncle) Sam, Freedom or even the word Patriot itself. Any of these names would stand out in a crowd while displaying your impressive patriotism. Virtue baby names like these were common in early America.

The month of July

Our nation celebrates its birthday every Fourth of July with picnics, parades and fireworks. Julian and Julia are names that represent the month of July. (Or you could simply name your child July — after all, others name their kids January, April, May, June and August.) And July's birthstone, the gorgeous red Ruby, is an increasingly popular name for girls.
