Perfect for those days when you don't feel like wearing lipstick, but when going bare lipped isn't an option, nude lipstick is the solution! While going nude can be tricky, finding the right nude for you is the first step in the right direction. Take a chance the next time you pucker up... go nude!

Step 1: What's your nude?

You may have written off nude lipstick all together, thinking that you simply can't wear it. But, we're here to shout it from the rooftops — there's a nude shade for every complexion, sometimes it just takes some time, and a professional, to help you find the one for you. When you compare nude lipsticks side-by-side, you'll start to see that some have brown/beige undertones, some have pink/blush undertones and some have plum undertones. To blend a nude flawlessly with the tone of your skin, pick the shade that best matches the color in your cheeks, or similar to the same color palate of blush that you might wear. It's all about subtle beauty with a nude lip!

Step 2: Cross the line

While you may not typically wear lip liner, if you're going to go nude with your lipstick, liner helps create definition between your lips and your skin. Pick a liner that it is just a touch deeper than the color of nude you've chosen and gently line your lips — particularly the center, in your pout. Not only will your nude lips stand out better but lining them also helps to create a plumper lip! New to lining your lips? Warm up the tip of the liner by drawing on the back of your hand first — it will allow it to glide on easier.

Step 3: Pucker up!

And now, for the big moment — taking your lips nude! Make sure they are well-moisturized first... even prepping them with some gloss or lip balm before applying the lipstick, like Kari Gran Skincare Lip Whip in Naked, is a great choice). There's nothing that will take you from chic to, "Did you steal that from your mother's makeup drawer?" like nude lipstick in the creases of your dry lips! You can easily layer your nude lipstick to create the look you'd like to achieve — one layer will give you a subtle daytime nude glow, two layers will pop for an evening out when you want your nude to make more of a statement.

Step 4: To gloss or not to gloss

Our motto? When in doubt, add gloss! Oftentimes, nude lipsticks are on the creamier-side and by adding a pretty lip gloss on top of your lipstick, you'll not only give your lips a pretty shine that will help protect the color itself but you'll take your lips from frumpy to fresh. Pick a gloss that is perfectly clear or has a hint of nude itself. Splurge on the Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Shiny Perfect Nude ($14, Sephora.com) — the best news is that you can wear the gloss on its own too for a double-duty beauty buy!

When in doubt, stop by your favorite cosmetics counter and have a professional cosmetologist help you pick a nude lipstick to match your skin tone!
