We asked real moms for anti-frizz products that work on different types of hair and test drove products ourselves. These are the solutions moms swear by, with options for every budget.
Use products formulated for curls
If your hair is curly, you'll get the best results from products formulated specifically for curly hair. Blogger Noemi uses Deva Curl products to wash and condition her hair and recommends picking them up online or at your local salon to get the best quality and prices. To finish her style, she uses and recommends Kinky-Curly Curling Custard (Beauty.com, $30).
Save money with drugstore steals
Mom Jenna Riggs suggests checking out brands you can find at your local drugstore. Nexxus Frizz Defy Shampoo (Target, $10) is easy on the wallet and smooth on hair. She finishes up her look with Suave Professionals styling products and uses them for her daughter's hair as well. If you're shopping around for the right fit, try using travel sizes to see what works.
Try a leave-in conditioner
During the summer months, your hair gets exposed to heat, sunshine and oftentimes chemicals. Give it extra protection with a moisturizing leave-in conditioner that helps add definition and smoothness to your hair. Remember, a little goes a long way. We test drove AG Cosmetics Fast Food leave-in conditioner (Ulta, $17) and fell in love with the weightless but controlled results.
Get smooth with styling cream
Want to go longer between washes? Mom of two Jonna Rubin suggests Living Proof Prime Style Extender (Sephora, $20). “I don't know what kind of voodoo Prime does (molecules, something something), but it really does extend my time between shampoos and make my hair easier to style. I used to have to wash it every single day or I was a grease monkey," she says. "Now, I wake up on the second day, do a little spritzing and fixing and just GO."
Go crazy for keratin
Keratin is the season's hottest hair product ingredient for a good reason. It helps keep your hair smooth and healthy, fighting the flyaways and split ends that give you frizz. It's a mouthful, but we're fond of Marc Anthony Bye Bye Frizz Keratin Smoothing Shampoo (Drugstore.com, $8). It gives hair a noticeable shine and works great whether you're air drying or blow drying.
Tame your locks with hair oil
Using oil as a styling tool sounds like a recipe for disaster, but when you use the right kind and you use the right amount, it can be the key to sleek, frizz-free hair. Stick to the ends of your hair and avoid your bangs. Nearly every mom we talked to recommended Moroccan oil, also known as argan oil. For another option that smells great, we love Amika Oil Treatment (Amika, $34).
