You're wandering around your favorite drugstore, hunting for the perfect mascara, but there are so many choices and it's so hard to narrow it down to one, let alone try to remember what you have at home that was a hit or miss last time! We've tested three popular drugstore mascaras and have real results. Mascara addicts, this is a must-read!

Rimmel London ScandalEyes Show Off Mascara

Price: Currently available online for $7 (

Rimmel London ScandalEyes Show Off MascaraWhat it claims

With a "breakthrough" brush that is flat on the sides and round on the tip, Show Off promises that it will give you lasting volume for your lashes, while still being gentle enough for contact users.

Our results

While the brush looked more like a medieval torture device than a beauty tool, we were pleasantly surprised with how easily it went on... and how great it made our lashes look. The volume wasn't as plump as we prefer, but it was balanced with the length that it added to our lashes. The little round ball at the end of the brush was great for getting our lower lashes covered!

Good For^ Lashes that feel like they flop halfway through the day with other mascaras.

Maybelline VE Colossal Mascara

Price: Currently available online for $6 (

Maybelline VE Colossal MascaraWhat it claims

With the bold statement that it will produce lashes that are nine times more voluminous — and in one swipe of the brush — it's hard not to try Maybelline's popular Colossal Mascara.

Our results

We think that it took more than one coat to get what we would consider nine times the volume of our lashes (we had to guess a bit on that one!), the coverage was pretty impressive... and best of all, it lasted all day without flaking or smudging. Bonus points for the brush being easy to use — it's not fancy, but it was easier to use than some of the bigger tubes.

Good For^Lashes that need to last you from your morning meeting to your evening book club.

CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Mascara

Price: Currently available online for $7 (

CoverGirl LashBlast Volume MascaraWhat it claims

According to the package, the brush on the LashBlast Volume Mascara is the biggest ever from CoverGirl, boosting your lashes to the biggest they've ever been.

Our results

Big brush, big lashes? We have to admit that all of those tiny little bristles on the brush of this mascara do their job well. Every single one of our lashes got covered with LashBlast, including ones that we didn't even know existed! The trick seemed to be to make sure the wand was free of excess mascara before applying — a quick dab with a tissue made all the difference.

Good For^Lashes that are fine and oftentimes hard to find with a mascara brush.

PLEASE NOTE!^ Prices may vary at your local drugstore or online.
