Dark 'n' Stormy

Dark 'n' Stormy is a highball cocktail that is trademarked by Gosling's Export Limited of Bermuda, makers of Gosling's Black Seal Rum. The Dark 'n' Stormy is Gosling's signature drink. This classic drink is popular worldwide, especially in many British Commonwealth countries, such as Bermuda and Australia.

Dark n Stormy Rum cocktails ingredients

Serves 1

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces Gosling's Black Seal Rum
  • Ginger beer

Directions:

  1. Fill a highball cocktail glass or Mason jar with ice.
  2. Pour the rum over ice and fill the rest of the glass with ginger beer.
  3. Garnish with a lime wedge. Enjoy!

Dark ‘n’ Stormy

El Presidente

The El Presidente is a Cuban-born cocktail from the dark days of American Prohibition. The history of the cocktail is somewhat fuzzy, but bartenders are known for creating it in honor of Cuban presidents. The legend is that Americans, unable to quench their thirst for cocktails at home during prohibition, would sail from Florida to Havana.

Serves 1

Ingredients:

  • 1-1/2 ounces white rum
  • 3/4 ounce orange curacao
  • 3/4 ounce dry vermouth
  • 1 dash grenadine

Directions:

  1. Place the martini shaker and a martini glass in the freezer for 30 minutes.
  2. Fill your martini shaker with ice.
  3. Add the rum, orange curacao, dry vermouth and grenadine to the shaker and shake vigorously until well combined.
  4. Strain into the chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a twist of orange. Enjoy!

Planter's punch

According to history, in 1840 Jerry Thomas at the Planter's Hotel in St. Louis 1840, created this drink. Today, it's considered not a specific cocktail, but rather has grown as the generic name for a set of rum-based punches. Recipes vary, containing some combination of lemon juice, pineapple juice, lime juice, orange juice, grenadine, soda water, curacao and Angostura bitters.

  • 1/3 ounce grenadine
  • Dash dark rum
  • Soda water
  • Dash Angostura bitters
