Dive into your pantry and grab some staples to create a delicious sauce for these hot, sweet and smoky shrimp. Serve the shrimp tapas-like in a shallow dish or with tortillas for a fiery taco!

Shrimp are so versatile and the perfect gift from the sea to use for appetizers or a meal. Tequila chipotle shrimp are perfectly scrumptious all on their own or wrapped up in a tortilla for a taco. Don’t forget sides such as shredded cheese, guacamole, salsa, sour cream and fresh cilantro. These babies are spicy so be sure to have ice cold beer on hand to wash them down!

Tequila chipotle shrimp

Serves 4


  • 1 pound medium shrimp (20-25), shelled and deveined
  • 2 chipotle chiles in adobo
  • 3 tablespoons silver tequila
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon adobo sauce from chipotle can
  • 1 garlic clove, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt


  1. In a small food processor or blender, combine the chipotle chiles, tequila, lime juice, ketchup, adobo sauce, garlic, brown sugar and salt. Process until smooth.
  2. Rinse shrimp and pat dry. Put the shrimp in a glass bowl and pour chipotle mixture over. Marinate for 30 minutes.
  3. Strain the shrimp and reserve the marinade in a bowl.
  4. Heat a large saucepan over high heat. Add shrimp and cook, tossing and stirring until just cooked through, about 2 minutes. Be careful not to overcook the shrimp. No one likes tough, overcooked shrimp! Transfer to a serving dish.
  5. Add the reserved marinade to the pan and bring to a boil. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
  6. Pour the sauce over the shrimp and serve immediately.

Ways to serve Tequila chipotle shrimp^

  • Serve with toothpicks for a finger-licking-good appetizer.
  • Chop shrimp and add to a crunchy or soft taco for a meal. Don't forget all those yummy taco sides!
  • Chop shrimp and add to a flour tortilla with Monterey Jack cheese for a spicy and zesty quesadilla.
