I think we can all agree that Halloween isn't Halloween without candy corn. And cupcakes? Well, cupcakes make any day brighter. We've merged these two tasty treats into one perfect bite-sized dessert!

If you're like us and can't celebrate Halloween without consuming mass quantities of candy corn, then you'll love this fun treat. And if you don't love candy corn, you'll be happy to know that these taste like traditional cupcakes. They just look like candy corn.

Ingredients:

  • White cake mix (boxed or homemade)
  • Candy corn
  • White icing (premade or from scratch)
  • Red food coloring
  • Yellow food coloring

Directions:

  1. Prepare cake batter, using either a boxed cake mix, or make from scratch. (This is our favorite recipe).
  2. Divide batter evenly among 3 bowls.
  3. Use food coloring to dye the batter in 1 bowl orange (using red and yellow food coloring).
  4. Use yellow food coloring to dye the batter in another bowl yellow.
  5. Leave the third bowl of batter white.
  6. Line a cupcake pan with white cupcake liners. (We used a mini cupcake pan for bite-sized treats.)
  7. Spoon in enough yellow batter to completely cover the bottom of the cupcake liners.
  8. Spoon in enough orange batter to completely cover the yellow layer.
  9. Top with enough white batter to completely cover the orange layer.
  10. Aim to fill each cupcake liner 2/3 of the way full.
  11. Bake according to package or recipe directions.
  12. Remove the cupcakes from the oven and allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
  13. Frost cupcakes with either a knife or a pastry bag.
  14. Top each cupcake with a piece of candy corn.

Fun Candy corn fact^ candy cornDid you know that there's an actual National Candy Corn Day? Yep, you can celebrate this little piece of heaven on Oct. 30. With its origin dating back to the 1880s, many of us couldn't celebrate Halloween without candy corn. And candy corn sales show that we just can't get enough of this sweet stuff. More than 35 million pounds are produced annually. That's just shy of 9 billion pieces. We refuse to admit just how much of that is consumed by the AllParenting team alone!
